Empty Irish Bar

I had kept this photo thinking it would be suitable for Stock Photography sites I subscribe to, but it was refused because they though I had over filtered the image, bah.

I took this photograph the day of the Car Boot sale, it was taken as we were leaving the Bernard Shaw Pub to make our way down to Temple Bar. On my way out I noticed the front bar was empty, a rarity in Ireland and thought Jesus this would be an interesting snap, so with my 50mm lens on the camera I placed the camera on the counter top and aimed towards the unused taps.

I have done nothing to this shot in photoshop or anything else the blurred background was there due to the lens on the camera and yep the bar was a s dark as you see it here. So over filtering really does not exist.

So anyhow I would love you guys, the people I take the photos for, to let me know how you feel about the picture.

  • This photo is great. Don’t know what could be over filtered. It’s just like Irish Pubs are and it’s great. I love that the background is blurred and you can see what you wanted to have on the picture. Very nice!

  • I love the dark countertop, it looks almost liquid and the taps look great. I also love the sharp edge of the poster on the window.

  • Thats what I thought too guys, thanks for the backup.

  • The window messes it up for me – can you get rid of the figure? I held my hand over the light window spot and suddenly saw the art of the countertop and figure of the taps properly!

  • Looking at this picture makes me feel thirsty and very sad that I’m at work… I feel at home, I mean out, looking at it. Is almost the exact position I aim for by the end of the night. Havign teh light background gives me a bit of a worried feeling though as it could mean I really fell asleep in the bar and now it’s morning. (Eh, I’ll go back to working now)

  • I agree with Jo, the brightness of the window between the poster and the frame causes the iris to narrow to much making you miss the play of light on the bar and taps.. like she said, when you cover it up the photo becomes something better altogether, even though as it stands the picture is still ace.

  • This image may well appear again, with what Jo and Lucky have said its a simple crop to be honest, leave that one with me! and thanks as always for all the comments.
