First day of tourists and the tourist attractions that cost a fortune to enter. This shot came from the Guinness Storehouse, with has a fantastic layout and the presentations are amazing. But it cost 14 euro which to be honest I think is a bit much considering you get a little booklet and a free pint of the black stuff up in the Gravity Bar.

More images to come.

  • dude

the storehouse is a 20 million euro visitor centre in the city where office space is one of the most expensive in the world.

add to that a pint costs what 5 – 6 euro, i think you are being a bit hard on them

but it is a stunning place and i guess you got plenty of great shots

  • Love the pic. Ver dark and evocative like the black stuff itself. Well done. Loving the pics lately.

  • Hi David, very nice shot. Lovely curves :)

  • love the shot.

Steve, I’m sorry to say but I must agree with John. It *IS* expensive and the pint of Guinness doesn’t make up for it. Had a pint in the AIRPORT for €4,5 so my guess is a pint in a normal pub is even less.

Really liked the Storehouse! Especially the construction you got in the picture.

    cheers,
    dolly

  • well Dolly

as I work in the industry, having done some of the storehouse, I can tell you that the running costs of those things are massive

I am not saying that the price is cheap, far from it, i am not suggesting the price is even correct (as thats not my job) what i was trying to suggest was that the cost of these places is not as simple as it sounds.

for example deducting the price of a pint, which i belive is more than 4.50 in most pubs just say 5 to make the maths easy, leaving 9 euro

knowing that an investment of approx 20 million was used to setup the storehouse, you can imagine how many people paying 9 euro it takes to just payback the investment, before running costs

my point was, that i was trying to explain that people are tooo quick to say these places are expensive. I know for a fact that a huge number of these places struggle to even cover costs never mind make a profit. not that i am suggesting the storehouse is one of them

anyway sorry if it sounds like a rant dolly, just tying to show a little inside informed opinion about visitor centre

    [/rant]

  • But everything about Ireland is expensive these days. Also since the place is so cool I would reckon they have made their money back at this stage. The amount of people there that day (midweek) was incredible and they just keep coming bus load after bus load. I do believe though the cost is a very good reflection of the costs in Ireland in general.

But as I did say the place is fantastic both in architecture and its visual presentation, I suppose I am just sick of being ripped off in this god damn country.
