Biffy Clyro at the O2

Tonight I had the pleasure of getting to see one of my favorite bands around. Biffy Clyro played in the O2, and not only that it was a very intimate gig with maybe 150 people and we were all, right up beside the stage.

To make things even better again I was told I could bring my camera WOOP!!!

They played a fantastic selection of songs and all acoustically which brought a new feel to so many rocky type songs, and they also played my favourite song of 2009 “Many of Horror” which brought a tear to my eye.

I took loads of pictures and may put one more up tomorrow, but for today I shall put up a photograph of lead singer Simon Neil singing “Many of Horror”

You gotta love summer, and the great news is that Ireland seems to be enjoying a lot of sunshine of late. With this in mind the gardens in Powerscourt had to be visited.

The flower beds are all looking stunning, but I imagine that another visit before the summer ends will be in order to see everything in bloom.

Even though I have many photos of Peter since I did that photoshoot with him, this shot from the Irelands Eye day out I think is my best shot to date of the guy. Again fair play to him for organising a great day out and for the chance to take so many photos that I cant stop looking at.

Also I must congratulate him on the birth of his first child, his beautiful daughter Ella, Congratz mate.

Hell Fire Horses

Last weekend I was up at the Hellfire Club up in the Dublin mountains. On the walk up to the house at the top of Mount Pelier, I passed by these 2 horses grazing in a field with stunning views over the Dublin skyline, unfortunately due to the weather, mist and rain its hard to see the extent of it.

Another photo from Irelands Eye, this time of the second bird I had hoped to photograph during my time there. So I was thrilled to have got the puffin shot but also chuffed to have the opportunity to photograph gannets. I have so many photos of the hundreds of gannets that I may put them up on pixie. Please let me know though if you do get bored of the bird photos and I will start putting up other stuff again hehe.

Ireland’s Eye Puffins

On Sunday I had the pleasure of going to Ireland’s Eye, just of the coast of Howth. The trip was organised by Peter Donegan and a fantastic day was had by all. Many thanks to Peter for organising it and for giving me the opportunity to shoot a bird I had always wanted to photograph out in the wild, the Puffin.

Ireland’s Eye is home to so many different types of Birds and over the next few days I hope to put them up on blog.

In Memory of Valentia

This evening I found out that someone I have admired for a long time and who has been a huge inspiration to me, passed away.

Danny O’Brien or Valentia (as I would have more commonly known him as) died in work on the 7th of April.

I was only talking to Danny on Tuesday, just after Paul was born, he was congratulating me, and we had a little private conversation on twitter through direct messaging. He only recently followed me on twitter since “I was a bit to noisy for him” so I was thrilled to see that change recently and I was only getting to know Danny a good bit more, it is a shame we had both left it so late.

No one could avoid his photographic talent on Pixie where I first encountered Danny, and Porchfield where his photographs were not only beautiful but also so inspiring for so many people.

My condolences go to his family for the loss of a great man and an amazing photographer, may he rest in peace.

Blog Awards 2010

So back from Galway after having a great weekend at the Irish Blog Awards for 2010. My camera did not get much use at all unlike previous years, this year I decided to talk to people rather then intimidate them with a camera.

Many thanks as always to Damien Mulley and his team of volunteers for putting the event together and hope to see you all again next year and finally congratulations to all the winners.
