Biffy Clyro at the O2

Tonight I had the pleasure of getting to see one of my favorite bands around. Biffy Clyro played in the O2, and not only that it was a very intimate gig with maybe 150 people and we were all, right up beside the stage.

To make things even better again I was told I could bring my camera WOOP!!!

They played a fantastic selection of songs and all acoustically which brought a new feel to so many rocky type songs, and they also played my favourite song of 2009 “Many of Horror” which brought a tear to my eye.

I took loads of pictures and may put one more up tomorrow, but for today I shall put up a photograph of lead singer Simon Neil singing “Many of Horror”

Peter Donegan

Even though I have many photos of Peter since I did that photoshoot with him, this shot from the Irelands Eye day out I think is my best shot to date of the guy. Again fair play to him for organising a great day out and for the chance to take so many photos that I cant stop looking at.

Also I must congratulate him on the birth of his first child, his beautiful daughter Ella, Congratz mate.

Blog Awards 2010

So back from Galway after having a great weekend at the Irish Blog Awards for 2010. My camera did not get much use at all unlike previous years, this year I decided to talk to people rather then intimidate them with a camera.

Many thanks as always to Damien Mulley and his team of volunteers for putting the event together and hope to see you all again next year and finally congratulations to all the winners.

Saint Patricks Day 2010

So I ended up going into Dublin for the Saint Patricks Day parade, again like last year I found myself in the pit where I was last year only this time I must have been later then last year cause the pit was stuffed with people and I found myself at least 3 people back from the edge of the rail.

I managed to get some photos but also managed to get a load that have since been deleted, so I wont be updating here much with parade photos cause they aint worth blogging to be honest, yes I am rather annoyed with my returns, but what a great fun day was had all the same.

Watching time go by.

Ok I know some of you may be a bit tired of all the Nautical shots and I promise they will end soon, but I do love this photo looking over to the other harbour wall. The 2 people at the end of the wall just made it for me.

Donegan Gardens

Recently I was asked by Peter Donegan of Donegan Landscaping to take some photographs, at first I assumed it would be photos of some gardens he may have worked on or something but it came as a suprise that he wanted them of himself.

Peter has spent a lot of time on the internet and is possibly one of the few if not the only Landscape gardener to blog, tweet – @DoneganGardens, facebook etc etc, so I gladly helped the guy out. Well what a fun day we had, and after 120 or so photos we found it easy to whittle them down to about 10 shots.

So best of luck to Peter now with his new look site and hopefully the photos will do you some good.

Gavin Friday

Well thank god for 2010, so far this year has been as busy as hell, which is an excellent complaint, but due to this photography has taken a backseat.

One project I am currently working on is a 1 hour documentary about this man, Gavin Friday, and I have to say it is one of the most interesting documentaries I have had the pleasure of working on for the last 14 years.

Gavin was in studio to have a listen to the mix I had worked on and was an absolute pleasure to work with, what a gent he was, and I cant wait to see the final programme now on air.

Howth Hillwalkers

Sunday, woke up, not sure what to do, decided to get up out of bed, go into town with my camera and decide what to do then, decided to take the dart to Howth. It was after all a beautiful day. I was brought up to the summit by a good friend Ruth to take photos of the lighthouse and on heading back from the hill I took this sneaky photo of hill walkers in front of us! I dunno I know its dark and what not but I actually really like it for some weird reason, maybe its my mood today or something.

Michelle Doherty and Vodafone 360

Woohoo in a first for McAWilliams.com I have an exclusive to show!!!

Well at long last I can put this image up taken a few weeks ago in Fossets Circus when they were in Dundrum. I was invited there by Vodafone to photograph Michelle Doherty an Irish TV presenter and all round nice woman taking part in the circus as part of Vodafones 360 experience of cultural heroes. All around the world celebrities were asked to take part in something they had never done before and out of character. Michelle did what I can only call the rope which is where she climbs up a rope and a person at the bottom spun her around like crazy it was a fascinating thing to watch and from what I have been told, the video goes live today on the vodafone 360 website as part of the cultural heroes section.

Fair play Michelle and thank you Vodafone for allowing me to enjoy the experience too.

Reflections on the Liffey

So last Sunday I went into town with plans to take some photos of things without people in them, my reason for this? well of late I have felt a lot of the images I have been posting seem to be of people.

Dont get me wrong people are amazing subjects to take photos of, but I was finding myself getting into a rut of sorts and felt this was all I was able to take pictures of, so Sunday was a challenge.

I failed! but I do love this image taken of the bridge near Capel Street, the reflections of the pedestrians really caught my eye, I do hope you like it too!
