Irish Blog Awards 2008

Well what will follow for the next few days will be some images from the 3rd annual Irish Blog Awards. A great night was had by all from what I can gather on sites I have been to today. Damien as usual did a fantastic job and a big up to all the sponsors who once again have made this happen.

The Photowalk was a great success, and a big thank you goesout to Redmum for organising that.

McAWilliams.com did not win, but Claire from Gingerpixel was my tip for the win and I was thrilled to hear her name called out.

Once again the community feel was in full flow, and it was great to meet up with Ryan, Catriona, Twenty, Fustar, Phil, Raptureponies and many others again.

On another note it was also great to see so many of my 4nine£’er friends at the awards, many of whom had never been before. I hope the blogosphere made you realise just what it is that we love about blogging.

Talking about what we love about blogging brings me to Sunday morning where the interview on RTE radio went according to plan, I took it easy on the gargle so did not have a hangover but I was shitting it in the studio. Fiona handled the interview really well while I shook my water all over the place, but it was great fun been on the other side of the microphone for once, all thanks to my next paragraph.

Mr Rick O Shea, it was himself that put me forward for the interview, but once again he did a great job of mc’ing on the night and I was touched to see him get so emotional when he won the best pop culture award. I know how much blogging means to him, I mean he eats sleeps and drinks blogs except when he is on air (thats facebook time), so it was great to see him start crying, that may well be tomorrows picture.

Self Portrait Mirrored

So the Irish Blog Awards are almost here, I cant wait for tomorrow night. I met up with Damien today and he cant wait for them to be over, he has worked relentlessly for the past 3 years to organise a great event that has grown from 100 or so people the first year to 400 people this year, fair play man.

Also I am looking forward to Redmums photowalk tomorrow which takes place at 12pm at the spire on O Connell Street. Hopefully the weather will hold up.

Then Sunday myself and Fiona Mc Phillips are been interviewed on RTE Radio 1 for a programme called “This Week“. We will be talking about blogging in general and also about the awards themselves. I am thrilled to have been asked because I feel the Photo side of blogging never really gets talked about in any media like TV, Radio or newspapers, probably because we write feck all normally and allow the pictures to do the talking, not much news in that. The only bad thing is I am been picked up at 10.15am by taxi to get to Donnybrook so I will have to take it handy tomorrow night with the gargle.

Anyhow I decided its ages since I posted a self portrait and I have seen many folk use the mirror effect well so I decided to give it a shot, it is also a great record for myself of my changes with age, style and glasses.

Look at me I am posting up a new picture, I aint gonna apologise for not having an image up for ages but the past 2 weeks have been very very hectic for me. All will be revealed at the Irish Blog Awards on Saturday. Last year I mentioned to Damien that if he ever needed a hand with the awards, give me a shout, thankfully he did and my work is now complete, hopefully it took some of the pressure of him although I don’t think he is the type to relax.

So the camera will now make its appearance out of the camera bag again and posting should resume to some sort of normality very soon.

In other news, I would like to thank who ever the judges for the photoblog category are, McAWilliams has made the finalist list in the photoblog category, I would also like to thank the sponsors of the category too, and wish the 10 other photoblogs the best of luck.

The list contains some of the old hand photoblogs out there and some new ones too, but there are also some blogs which did not make it, like Catriona.net (been in the finals every year up to now) and headphoneland (last years winner) and many others, which have come as a suprise.

Anyhow roll on Saturday night, I cant wait to see some familiar faces and I am also looking forward to seeing some new ones too.

Winter ending?

Posted by McAWilliams under Flowers

Its amazing really did we ever really see winter, I still have geraniums growing outside and get this they are still flowering aswell. But it is great to see daffodils and crocus’s all starting to shoot up.

Winter is officially over.

On another topic altogether McAWilliams has got through the first round of judging for the Blog Awards, along with 21 others, so in relation to a shortlist it did not happen, so a second round of judging will trim it down to 10 or 11.

So I would love to say I am shortlisted but dont feel I can just yet, congrats to the other 20 that got on the list some old hats at this game now and some great new ones too.

Photographing the photoblogger

The offical photographer from the blog awards was Ryan from Rymus.net. This guy really made me sick walking around like he owned the joint with his big fancy lenses and his two canon cameras with battery grips and stofen diffusers and lightboxes etc etc.

My only joy was that he asked if he could borrow my 430ex hotshoe flash and I thought woohoo I’ve got something he does not have (what a kid) 10 minutes later he wondered if he could just borrow my batteries and use them for his 580ex flash, god he never stopped.

In all honesty a nicer guy you could not have met and he let me play with his camera, and made me realise I need an image stabilized lens.

Anyhow this was a fun shot, photoblogger shooting photoblogger, kinda strange seeing the faces people pull when taking pictures, I probably had my tongue out though.
