The changes keep coming!

Posted by McAWilliams under Written

One thing I wanted to bring back from the second last version of the site, was for the headers to change a bit. In movabletype this was simple because each page was manually coded, with wordpress the template structure is quite different, and at last I have got the knack of how the jigsaw comes together.

So rather then have the old images for each page, I have made use of the couch and it shall be the focus point of all things to come, so far I have 6 images coming up at random, but I have ideas on how to keep developing this idea for the future.

Please let me know what you think in the comments, tell me if they annoy you, or make you smile a bit, obviously my rss readership wont get to enjoy this the way I had hoped so maybe something new and different will be coming your way, and if you are interested in doing this on your own wordpress blog let me know and I can help out with the codes needed.

  1. Darren Said,

McA, I love the header to your blog. It’s unique and perfect for a photographers blog. I’d love to be able to do something like that on my own, but my coding skills are still in their infancy. I have bookmarked your post however, so I may come back to you in a few months.

    Really enjoying the blog, btw.

  2. Darragh Said,

Yep, agreed with Darren, the couch is a great idea.

Just to mess with your reader’s heads you could do themed couches for special days - pink for Valentine’s, green for Paddy’s, have a chick on it for Easter, candles for your birthday and all of that. When you’re on holiday have the couch empty - just like no flag on the Arás… It’s a great prop, use it :)

    Looking forward to Saturday :)

  3. McAWilliams Said,

Cheers guys for the comments, Darren it is really easy to do so give me a holler when you are ready to give it a go.

Darragh you are reading my mind I have a holiday one ready, christmas, halloween and easter have all been prepared aswell.

As for Saturday, yep cant wait should be a great crowd going, I am thinking it could be in its 20’s.

  4. darragh Said,

I do hope that it’s far more a case of great minds alike rather than fools seldom differing ;-)

If the weather holds for the weekend it should be a great one. Beer garden afterwards?

  5. Are you feeling lucky? Said,

The random stuff works really well…you know me I love all things random, but I can’t help thinking that changing the picture on the wall to one of your own images would add to the whole effect a lot more…

The photoshop work on the couch is really well done mate - the blending and shadowing - it seriously looks like you sat on that thing and weren’t just pasted in later on… I’m very impressed with your skills matey… you’ve come a long way.

I really want to see a Christmas tree in December replacing those sticks in the urn. ;-)

  6. Are you feeling lucky? Said,

Damn it, I’ve just realised you’ve actually got changed so that your wearing clothes that complement the decor of the theme… man, you big wuss… I ain’t ever going for pint with you again!

    You suck… Bah

/me Storms off in digust at poncy Jon!

  7. Are you feeling lucky? Said,

Psssttt… Those Black shoes don’t really work with those brown kecks, mate. ;-) I think your going to have to redo all those shots with some brown shoes instead… or some holey socks with a big toe poking through…

  8. McAWilliams Said,

Darragh - Agreed, Beer Garden sounds like a good spot for some photography

Lucky - God you spent a while analysing, but sure what else would I expect from you, yep brown black does not work at all but sure I was never the most fashionable. As for the picture behind the couch I forgot all about it will have to do something with it I think. You never answered my question about when you are going to start blogging yourself, I can see a good group blog on the horizon!

  9. sandy Said,

Have to say i’m liking this. I thought it was for a furniture site when i first opened up the page… tee hee

  10. Franzi Said,

I really love the new idea/header. It looks great and is an awesome idea.

  11. aquaasho Said,

Hey John, the header looks great, I’ve clicked it a few times….just for fun! In internet explorer though I have to pan down to below your “search” bar to get to the first post. It’s blank until then if you know what I mean…..

  12. sandy Said,

ooh now your poking out from behind the couch, didn’t realise you were there…. ya caught me starkers eek!!!!
